Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire
The EcoHouse, Leicester's internationally renowned environmental showhome, demonstrates hundreds of environmental features and ideas, inspiring and encouraging visitors to make green changes to their own homes and gardens. Situated just off the Hinckley Road in Western Park, the EcoHouse is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle or car.
Set up and managed by Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire, with financial support from Leicester City Council, the EcoHouse reopened in February 2000 after a major expansion and refurbishment funded by the National Lottery, the European Union and more than 100 businesses. More than 100,000 visitors have been to the EcoHouse since it first opened in 1989, including royalty and Government Ministers. Walking round the EcoHouse, the visitor is struck by many environmental options, as the whole house incorporates products and materials selected for their green credentials.
An audio guide is available, to help visitors get the most from their visit. Interpretation includes an introductory video presentation, touch screen computers throughout and several interactive displays. The EcoHouse is surrounded by a good sized organic garden, and visitors can enjoy refreshments from the cafe and purchase a wide-range of environmental goods in the EcoShop. Guided tours can be arranged and school visits are welcome if booked in advance.
The EcoHouse staff are happy to give advice and information to visitors. Whether its about saving energy, sourcing recycled underlay or how to set up a compost wormery, we have many of the answers to help you be kinder to the environment. We also have information on grants available for home improvements. If we are unable to answer your enquiry immediately, we will take a contact telephone number or address and get back to you.
The EcoHouse also hosts many special events, details of which can be seen on the Events listing page. The EcoHouse meeting room is available for hire and is ideal for meetings of up to 30 people.
